Unlike vanilla minecraft whose map of biomes determine temperature and rainfall, vintagecraft goes the opposite way by letting the biomes be determined by a map temperature and map of rainfall. This is one reason why Vintagecraft is not very compatible with other mods.
In return Vintagecraft gains the ability of much greater biome diversity and completely smooth transitions between biomes. All plants, trees and flowers are generated by min-max values of temperature, rainfall, elevation... and so on.
All rock types are grouped into 4 categories. Their hardness affects the mining speed.

Sedimentary rocks always spawn above their metamorphic counterparts ("Formed from").
Every tree has it's own unique conditions on where they spawn, which is based on real life. Their logs and planks also have realistic differences in hardness which influences how long they burn in a fire pit or stove as well as what can be built from them.
Mechanical Power components can only be build from planks with janka hardness above 1000. The carpenters workbench and the wooden water buckets require planks with janka hardness above 800.
All trees drop saplings, however some trees do so with a very low chance.
